The byproduct of narcissism is a response to significant traumas that leave them with a fragile sense of self-worth and the idea that, if they are not perfect and wonderful, they are deemed worthless.

Therefore they grow a veil that shields them from all potential danger. They frequently adopt a counterproductive strategy and engage in acts of self-sabotage that prove to be less than beneficial for neither them or those around them.

Scared of being left alone

The narcissist’s harshest punishment is being left alone. Due to mistreatment and emotional neglect, they have grown up alone. They refuse to never return to that place. They cannot stand the silence that comes with the territory. The reason? It forces them to confront themselves — damning yet very terrifying. There is no source to drain when they are by themselves. After all, solitude is dull and anything else would be better than to look inward.

Being unmasked

Nobody is aware of who they actually are. And no one will ever know the depths of their inner darkness. They put in a lot of effort to keep their reputation clean, but will go through lengths to damage your’s, especially if you threaten to reveal their identity.
