Personality disorders aren’t slapped on a kid’s record. For obvious reasons, they’re still shaping who they are — trying on a variety personality traits, discarding and keeping what fits.

It takes years of consistent, unchanging behavior to say something’s gone awry in a way that lasts. But sometimes, early signs may pop up, giving a glimpse of what could turn into a more serious issue if left unchecked.

Recognizing major red flags

Narcissism has probably never had a better breeding ground than today. We’re all surrounded by likes, follower counts, and a society that says, “Look good, get noticed — who cares who you shove out of the way?”

And kids are soaking it all in daily, left to wonder where they fit and how to measure up. This is ideal ground in fostering pretty toxic behaviors. Noticing these red flags early can help steer them clear of a much rougher path.

They ALWAYS need to be right

Kids struggle with admitting they messed up; that’s normal. But when a child has a strict “I’m never wrong” attitude, refusing to own up even when the evidence is painfully obvious, it’s time to pause.
